The Pingyin double-petaled red rose is the only edible rose variety registered by the Ministry of Health in China, and its planting history is very long.
The traditional Pingyin double-petaled red rose is a variety of traditional Chinese roses, which began in the Han Dynasty and has a cultivation history of more than 2,000 years.
The traditional Pingyin double-petaled red rose is characterized by a well-developed root system, the plant type is erect and open, about 1 meter high, the branches are many and hard, the main branches are gray-brown, with gray-white powder, and the twigs are brown; the pinnate compound leaves, composed of 7-9 leaflets, the leaf margin teeth are blunt, the leaf surface is wrinkled, the flowers are solitary or several clusters, they are umbrella inflorescences, the aroma is rich, the flower color is light purple, the compound petals are 4-5 layers, the flower diameter is about 8cm, the flowering period is from early May to early June, and the flower color is rose-red. In Document No. 3 of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China, Pingyin double-petaled red roses were approved as new resource food raw materials. It is the only approved rose variety for both medicinal and edible purposes.
The roses that bloom in Xiaocheng are only made of Pingyin's traditional double-petaled red roses grown in the core origin of Pingyin, and no transplants or hybrids are used. Hybrid roses, hybrid transplanted varieties can produce more than 1,000 catties of flowers per mu, while Pingyin's traditional double-petaled red roses can only produce 500-600 catties per mu. "But the anthocyanin content of the traditional Pingyin double-petaled red rose is 20 times that of green tea. The extraction of essential oil can reach 4 catties out of 10,000 catties of flowers, while ordinary roses in the industry can only produce an average of 2-3 catties. ”
The roses picked are the first stage of the corolla, such a corolla with the sweet fragrance of the first flower, such a corolla can only be picked in the early morning, the rose is picked with the morning dew, as soon as the sun comes out, the rose will bloom within an hour or two, due to ultraviolet radiation, the core of the flower will be exposed, will cause more than half of the essential oil to volatilize with the aroma, the petals will become thinner, the flower color will become pink and white, and the grade of the corolla will also decline.
Every year from April to the beginning of May rose picking period, the flower farmers have to start preparing to be busy all night, every night at about 1 o'clock in the morning to get up, at about 2 o'clock when people are asleep, the flower farmers have already walked into the flower field, with searchlights on their heads, holding the uniform distribution of flower buckets, and began to race against time to pick roses, of course, this is not with people to rob, but with the sun, time to grab. The time to pick the rose corolla is strictly stuck before 2-6 am. The corolla is stained with morning dew, the flowers have not yet opened, the flower shape is half a cup, and the core is faintly visible, which is the best rose crown we are looking for.
